The hospitals and sanitary centres are organizations
that should play an exemplary role in the control of tobacco consumption.
With the objective that the hospital is a labour and assistance smoke-free
space, and at the same time to be coherent with other actions of health
promotion and prevention of tobacco-caused illnesses, at the end of
1997 an intervention model was designed which covered all the organization
and kept in mind the factors of organization, both group and individual,
that favour and strengthen behaviours of tobacco consumption control.
The objectives to achieve by any Hospital that wants to be part of
the Catalonian Network of smoke-free Hospitals are:
To obtain a smoke-free Hospital in all the assistance
and work areas.
To apply an effective intervention model with organizing, group and
individual commitment to facilitate and to reinforce the control of
attitudes and tobacco consumption.
To promote the fulfilment of the international standards established
by the European Network of Smoke-free Hospitals.
