Cancer is one of the
main problems of health of the society in the western countries.
The knowledge of its impact in the population and of its tendencies
should be the base of any strategy of control and prevention of this
illness. The objective of the information devised at the Prevention
and Cancer Control Service is to know what situation related to cancer
we are in in Catalonia from the epidemiological point of view.
The variations of the incidence (number of new cases per year) and
of mortality by this illness observed among the countries, is indicative
of the importance that the factors of risk can have, related to the
way of life of each individual and with his/her background, along with
inheritance, as causes of cancer.
