The Prevention and Cancer
Control Service carries out studies, evaluations and research related
to the impact of cancer in the population, cancer prevention, premature
diagnosis, and the use of sanitary services in the oncological assistance.
Likewise, it devises material of information and sanitary education,
and offers advice to institutions, professionals and associations.
The main lines of work have to do with the monitoring of mortality,
incidence, factors of risk and cancer-related preventive activities;
the prevention of the cancer risk factors; secondary prevention and
the programs of cancer screening; the evaluation of both oncological
sanitary services with regard to the assistance quality and the patients’ life
quality; the cancer genetic counsel; the information and sanitary
education on cancer; and the contribution with the volunteerism and
groups of mutual aid.
The Prevention and Cancer Control Service works in close contribution
with the rest of Units of the Institut Català d'Oncologia and
assesses various agencies integrated to the Public Sanitary Administration.
Likewise, the Service of Prevention and Cancer Control works to establish
modalities of advising and stable cooperation between organizations
of volunteerism and groups of mutual aid.
