The Area of Epidemiology, Prevention and Cancer Control consists of the Service of Epidemiology and Cancer Register and the Prevention and Cancer Control Service. Its lines of work include the organization and provision of certain preventive services, like the screening of breast or colon cancer, or the maintenance of the Hospital Tumours Register ICO/CSUB, the epidemiological research into factors of risk of cancer (viral origin of the cancers, cancer and diet, tobacco and cancer), the research into the use of resources in oncological assistance and the monitoring of the cancer tendencies on the population…

The Area collaborates with other institutions in research now under way, it gives methodological support to the population cancer registers of Catalonia and collaborates with organizations of volunteers and of mutual aid in the prevention and sanitary education on the cancer.

In the educational aspect, the Area participates actively in the project e-oncology of the ICO and the UOC of non-attendance education, in the Master in Public Health of the UPF and with programs of pre-graduate and post-graduate of the University of Barcelona and of the University Autònoma of Barcelona. The Area organizes a cycle of weekly scientific sessions where are presented designs of studies, projects in progress, or results of the research of the members of the Area or of people linked or guests of other groups and centres of research of our surroundings
