Oncology illnesses, for their incidence and prevalence in the population
and by the high rate of mortality implied, continue being one of the
priority problems of health. This fact, along with the characteristics
of their prevention and treatment, advise the creation of a specific
plan that, every three years, defines in this course of action the
guidelines that the Departament of Salut should follow to prompt, plan
and coordinate the actions to develop in the areas of promotion, prevention,
treatment and rehabilitation of cancer illnesses. At the same time,
these guidelines will have to be an instrument that orientates the
objectives and interventions that the Pla de Salut in Catalonia set
for the prevention and control of these illnesses.
The elaboration
of the Pla Director d'Oncologia in Catalonia 2005-2008 (PDOC) keeps
in mind the notable scientific advancements of recent years and the
experience achieved in the fight against this illness, as well as the
results of the PDOC 2001-2004, which established different actions
to develop in this time limit with the objective to obtain better clinical
results and patients’ quality of life, and to promote the prevention
and its premature diagnosis.
On the other hand, in this task of planning
the assistance to oncology illnesses, the Departament of Salut should
include the contribution of experts in this matter, who assess the
next phases of elaboration, establishment, evaluation and updating
of the Plan. For this, the advisory Table of Oncology is created (we
enclose a list of members).
