€ 47.000 annually to make oncology illnesses socially
normal
The ICO Foundation signed collaboration covenants with six towns
in 2006 |
These covenants establish the collaboration framework
between each town and the ICO Foundation which has, among its objectives,
to improve
the quality of life of patients with cancer and their relatives,
as well as to normalize this illness socially.
As a result of these agreements, the towns of Sant Just Desvern,
Sant Andreu de la Barca, Hospitalet de Llobregat, Abrera, Vallirana
and Sant Feliu de Llobregat will contribute with € 47,000
a year in total, for three years, for the Foundation. ICO, in return,
will promote formation and preventive activities in these towns.
Other agreements are to be signed during the first term of 2007
with the towns of Sant Joan Despí, Cervelló, Sant
Climent de Llobregat and Sant Esteve Sesrovires.
In relation with
the different towns, the ICO Foundation has also organised a round
table, addressed to town councillors and those
responsible for health in Baix Llobregat, Badalona and Girona, under
the title “Oncology and Towns”, with the aim of comparing
the activity of ICO with the vision and the needs of the towns.
Besides,
and continuing with the contacts between ICO and the towns around
it, the Mayor of Sant Climent de Llobregat, Ms. Tomi Jiménez
i Frías, has recently visited ICO in Hospitalet.
