During the months of April and May, three secondary schools from Hospitalet are to visit the Laboratory of Translational Research, within the Escolab project, which is part of the ‘Year of the Science’ in Barcelona. Escolab intends to take the schools to the laboratory by means of didactic activities in different centres of research.
During the visits, ICO’s task and the research which is done in these centres are explained to the students of ESO and Batxillerat .
They have some didactic activities in the laboratory, such as the observation of healthy tissues and others with tumours; they can also see normal and transgenic mice in the place where they are grown, and observe DNA sequences in the laboratory of genetics.
Several researchers have participated in the organization of these visits, with the objective of making the youths see the research into cancer which is carried out at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO).
