Esteve Fernández, from the Unit of Epidemiology
and Tobacco Consumption Control of the Prevention and Cancer Control
Service, is the new Coordinator of the Catalan Network of Smoke-free
Hospitals (XCHsF*) substituting Elvira Méndez, who finished
her work as Coordinator last July. These have been years of intense
dedication to a pioneer project which has made the network of hospitals
not only smoke-free but also actively involved in the control and
prevention of tobacco consumption.
Esteve Fernández faces this task with Cristina Martínez’s
support; she will continue being a nurse of this Network. At this new stage,
Esteve Fernández determines the lines where we must act and improve:
the consolidation of the programmes for patients and sanitary staff to give
up the habit in hospitals, the interchange of experiences through the web-site,
the spreading of coordinated training from the Network itself and other projects,
fruit of the work in the Network which we have to maintain and maximize. We
will continue working in the same line, started 7 years ago, so that our hospitals
become and keep on being smoke-free centres and contribute to the prevention
and control of tobacco consumption among their staff, their users and their
surroundings.
