New spaces for training
are opened at ICO in Hospitalet
ICO’s Training and Teaching Unit, which used to be
located on the 7th floor of the Duran i Reynals Hospital, was moved
to the
new spaces created on the ground floor last October.
The new location includes offices for the training staff, a meeting
room and three new classrooms, which mean more space for oncology
teaching at ICO.
The three new classrooms, which are situated in what used to be the
old café premises of ICO in Hospitalet, are equipped with
the necessary technology for a good development of the training sessions
and they can hold more than 150 students. Besides, both the offices
and the classrooms receive natural light. The ‘consellera’ of
Health, Marina Geli, opened these new spaces at ICO in Hospitalet,
coinciding with her visit to the new linear accelerator, last 5th
of October.
The new classrooms are named:
- Francesc Duran i Reynals classroom (capacity for 48 people)
- Josep Trueta classroom (capacity for 54 people)
- Joaquim i Antoni Trias i Pujol classroom (capacity for 53 people)

ICO’s Training Unit staff have also increased
and there are now 6 people working at it: Xavier Gómez Batiste
(director), Rosa Moliner and Lourdes Guanter (Management and Teaching),
Eulàlia Alburquerque (Areas of On-Line Training and Palliative Cares), Senta Chicote (Areas of Nursing and Continuous Training)
and Sílvia Macias (secretary).
Our goal is that ICO becomes a learning and training centre in the oncology area.
With this objective, every year a wide programme of masters, post-graduate courses,
courses and workshops is offered, organised by ICO’s Training Unit. Nearly
500 people are trained every year, either at our premises, externally or thanks
to training seminars at the Institut Català d’Oncologia, apart from
the new training service on internet: e-oncologia. |
