New ICO organization
The new ICO chart organigrama wants to explain how we have organized
ourselves in order to fulfil our mission to “reduce the impact
of cancer in Catalonia” and achieve our institutional objectives:
the improvement in assistance, prevention and research as key objectives
of our institution. ICO, as an organization based on knowlege,
is, from the its own management, a company focused on the improvement
of the citizens’ health. Cancer prevention, premature diagnostic,
assistencel with the adequate treatement at every stage of the
illness are based on the expertise, attitude and experience of
the professionals. These are the axes of the new organization,
which has its centre in the patients and their needs.
This chart shows all these concepts, but also some of great importance
as territorial organization. Because ICO with its three sees in
l’Hospitalet, Badalona and Girona, is a network organization.
From these, i provides service in and with county hospitals in
its area of geographic influence. ICO’s will i to go even
further, and give service to all the existing assistance network,
both at a hospital level, as in the primary assistance centres
and in socio-sanitary aspects. This service will be complete when
it can be done in all the different specialities that make up the
ICO.
The key element that has to trace ICO’s assistencial line
is the continuity of the assistance based on two principles: equity,
both regarding acces to the services and the assistance, and interdisciplinarity.
Continuous avaluation of what we do and how we do it is an obligation
before ourselves, before the citizens and before the scientific
community. The measure of our activity in the widest sense must
provide the elements to compare and to improve.
Finally, the last two strategic considerations: in the first place,
the will to be a unique ICO is completely reflected in this chart.
Despite being a network organization, ICO was born to be ONLY ONE
organization. The division according to territories must be understood
exclusively as the way to make acces to our service easy for the
citizens, with the firm will to reach the place the closest possible
to their homes. The second consideration, derived from the previous
one is that, for all the other activities, ICO is only one organization,
because the prevention politics must be only one, and there must
be one research.
Managing our knowledge to benefit those ill with cancer in particular
and all the citizens in general. This is our great and atractive
challenge.
