On 1st January 2002 the ICO-HOSPITAL Dr. Josep Trueta began to work as “Oncology Reference Unit for the Sanitary Region of Girona”. The main objective of this new organization was to obtain a qualitative improvement in oncology, promoting the integration of the assistance, the multidiscipline that the tumours committees give in order to make the most adequate therapeutic decision, having the new most advanced therapeutic and diagnostic technologies in oncology, adapted to the growth of incidence of cancer and to respond to the assistance demand of the region.
